Artist Statement

My sustained investigation focuses on how scenes in homes or the architecture of them can tell a story of who was there from a single image. I did this by including different angles and scenes of houses, outside shots and inside shots, and different mediums. There is a recurring theme of windows and nature that allow for glimpses of either the outside or the inside. In painting architecture, I also attempted to create a greater appreciation for the art of architecture in paying attention to the details in it. I used different materials to create variety and add detail in different ways to each piece. I used watercolor for the broader images and oil paint for the smaller details in the zoomed in photos. I also used aacua ink, watercolor pencils, and different types of printmaking techniques. In my investigation, I realized that houses are very telling of someone’s personality and the way they live their life, giving them a deeper meaning and a greater connection to individuals.
